Learning to skate at Lee Valley Ice Centre
The Ice Centre is the Centre of Excellence for the South of England and has a 56m by 26m ice pad that provides ice skating for all levels and abilities, from beginners to international competitors. The Centre has public sessions 7 days a week at various times and a learn to skate programme which operates 6 days a week for children and adults.
The Ice Centre was opened in 1984 by Torvill and Dean and was host to an international Gala the same year. Many skating champions have been trained at the Centre, some of which have gone on to represent Great Britain. Junior Ice hockey teams also train at the Centre.
The Ice Centre is and has been a major venue for skating events which include, British championships, internationals, regional competitions and is now a firm favourite for such events.
Over the past 20 years the Ice Centre has produced an annual Christmas ice show with over 50 skaters to audiences of over 5,000.
The Centre is situated at the front of the Walthamstow Marshes, a green flag area and part of the Lee Valley Regional Park .
The site has parking for 200 cars and an over flow area for a further 200 cars. There is 800 seating capacity around the rink and skating for a maximum of 750 per public session. There are over 1800 skates available to hire and café seating for 50 . The hospitality area for 85 is used by outside bodies for small conferences and meetings and is available for hire.
There is a full stocked ice shop selling all skating equipment and visitors can order any special items on request.

Learn to skate with our team of highly qualified instructors. A course of group lessons is a fun way to learn to ice skate safely and correctly plus make new friends. We offer a comprehensive range of courses for all ages and abilities from toddlers to adults.

Junior Hockey Club
If you have achieved level 4 learn to skate and are interested in this fast and furious sport in a safe environment - why join the Lee Valley Lions!
The junior jockey has separate teams for different age brackets these are: Under 10’s, Under 12’s Under 14’s Under 16’s and Under 18’s as well as this there is a beginner’s hockey program run by the club on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday Evenings, the minimum entry requirement is Skate UK level 4.
Figure Club
This includes ice dance, single free skating, pairs skating and synchronised. The club has ice time three times a week, all are welcome when level 4 learn to skate has been achieved.
Birthday Party Package
We are delighted to offer you the opportunity to book your children in for our fun packed birthday parties (weekends only). The package includes admission, skate hire, a dedicated area for food & a choice of menu options and a fun bag. This even includes a coaching session of 30 minutes as part of your package!
Costs: £15.00 per head, minimum of 8 children (maximum 15 children).

Accessibility
The site has wheelchair and pushchair access, hearing loop at the box office and parking for disabled customers is available. Electronic doors to the Centre and to the café and seating areas along with ramps in the café make the Centre easily accessible, there is also disabled access to the ice surface.

The National Ice Skating Association (NISA) has opened a south office at the Centre.

The Centre will host the British Championship qualifiers at the end of August 2008

The new hockey season starts in September 2008.

A new score board and partition barrier for special event use and sports development is due to be installed.

The Centre will host the National Open competition on 10th and 11th May during the day and spectators are welcome (evening session as normal ).

The Centre is installing a grey water system to ensure water saving at the centre. This is the first of its kind at an ice rink.
Site Management
The Ice Centre has a management team dedicated to providing skating for all users. The friendly staff are always on hand to assit with any enquiries and there is a full team of qualified coaches.
The Centre is also leading the way in environmentally sustainable practices with a state of the art plant, which is the first of its kind in the UK to use green electric.
