Ranger Service

Lee Valley Regional Park Authority have a Greenspace Ranger Service which looks after all of the open space sites within the 26 mile Regional Park.
The Rangers have a very multi-functional role which includes:
  • day to day management, patrolling and monitoring of sites
  • carrying out minor routine repairs and maintenance in the Park
  • carrying out wildlife habitat management work consistent with the Park’s Biodiversity Action Plan e.g. tree management and planting, reed management, scrub clearance, pond management
  • producing management and work plans for all the open space sites, and working towards Green Flag award status for key sites
  • monitoring wildlife habitats and species
  • monitoring the Ground Maintenance contract for the Open Spaces
  • developing and delivering projects to improve access and wildlife habitats
  • monitoring contractors carrying out work in the open spaces
  • carrying out wildlife species and habitat surveys e.g. birds, wildflowers and  dragonflies
  • working with our Youth and Schools Department on the development and delivery of education programmes
  • developing and implementing guided walks/talks
  • delivering our own events and enabling other organisations to run events on the open spaces
  • working with local communities and involving them to improve the open space sites
  • designing new interpretation, leaflets, and self guided trails
  • running volunteer conservation tasks including corporate and youth groups
  • assisting visitors to the Park with any enquiries and provide information about the open spaces.
  • responding to any on-site incidents and emergencies,
  • enforcement of Park Byelaws
  • assisting with wildlife rescues
The Ranger Service is split into two distinct areas:
 
1/ North Area team which covers the half of the park north of the M25 from Ware and Stanstead Abbotts down through River Lee Country Park to Waltham Abbey and Cheshunt.
 
2/ South Area team which covers the area to the south of the M25 from Rammey Marsh/ Gunpowder Park down through Tottenham marshes, Walthamstow Marshes and Lea Bridge Road down to Bow Creek and East India Dock Basin.
