Lee Valley White Water Centre. Legacy in Action

Lee Valley White Water Centre Legacy in Action

With the Olympic Games only four months away hundreds of school children were given a unique chance to try out a 2012 venue for themselves. The second Lee Valley White Water Schools Festival took place on 26 and 27 March and forms part of our work to bring the benefits of the Games to all.

Hundreds of school children rafted the Olympic course for free at the venue, the very course  which will host the London 2012 Canoe Slalom Competition. The first Schools Festival in 2011 attracted 1500 school children from all over the capital, Essex and Hertfordshire.

The Centre is the only 2012 venue open to the public in Olympic year. Since its opening in April 2011 it has attracted 130,000 visitors, 35,000 of whom took to the water. The Centre is already delivering on legacy, raising the profile of paddle sports and bringing our vision for community, commercially driven venues to life.
