Bird Bus 2008 (Walthamstow Reservoirs Waterbirds Project)
Sponsored by Thames Water the Bird Bus is back! Come and join the Youth & Schools Service on this popular educational visit for Primary School pupils aged 8 and over within the post codes N4; N9; N15; N16: N17: N18; E4: E5; E9; E10; E17; E18. During this two hour programme the pupils take an imaginary migration from the school gates in free transport (provided) to Walthamstow Reservoirs where they will learn about the resident water birds and their habitats by taking the opportunity to use a bird hide, binoculars and a telescope before boarding the bus to migrate back to school!

Tottenham Water Safari
A Lee Valley Regional Park and British Waterways partnership project involving a fun day of activities on and around the River Lee Navigation at Tottenham Marshes for Year 5 and Year 6 pupils.
You will spend half of the day splashing about on the river as qualified instructors from Haringey Youth Paddlers lead you in canoeing exercises and activities. The other half of the day will be spent learning how to be safe near water and exploring the local wildlife in the marsh habitats.

Bow Creek project week
Bring your class and come and explore Bow Creek Ecology Park which is the most southern part of the Lee Valley Regional Park. In our two hour session your pupils will have an opportunity to understand and experience the importance of urban habitats through studying terrestrial and fresh water invertebrates in our minibeast hunting and pond dipping sessions.

Secondary Schools Orienteering Competition
Following the success of last years competition secondary schools (Year 9 and 10 pupils) from across the region are invited to explore the Lee Valley Park testing their teamwork and navigational skills on part of our 10 mile orienteering course.
Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.

Walthamstow Reservoirs Waterbirds Project Week for Special Schools 2008
The Youth & Schools Service is running the popular Walthamstow Reservoirs Water birds Project Week, sponsored by Thames Water, between Monday 6th – Friday 10th October 2008. Pupils visit Walthamstow Reservoirs where they have the opportunity to visit a bird hide and use binoculars and a telescope to get close up views of water birds. Activities are led by experienced staff and cover some simple bird identification, learning about habitats and food chains and are planned with special groups in mind including tick sheets and tactile objects.

Great Stink project week
Bring your class along to the Waterworks to discover the facts surrounding the water cycle and the impact that humans have upon it. Look back at the history of Victorian London’s sanitation and how this caused the Great Stink of 1858. Find out how the water in the city was ‘cleaned up’ saving thousands of lives.
See how the former Waterworks site has now been converted into a valuable inner city Nature Reserve retaining many of its original features and take a look at some of its current feathered inhabitants.

Countryside Live the Country Fair for London Primary School Children.
This fun and educational event with lots of links to the curriculum, will take place on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th September at Leyton Marsh, Lea Bridge Road, Leyton. This outdoor event, which is now in its 6th year, and held in marquees and open spaces, allows the children to get involved with hands-on activities, have a mini-beast hunt and see falconry, sheepdogs, gundogs and ferret racing in the arena. From boat trips to bats, country crafts to conservation, healthy eating and food to farming and farm animals, we’ve got it all, we can guarantee that the children will experience things that they have never experienced before.
