For more ways to discover the Lee Valley there are shared use paths available for all.
Lee Valley Pathway
The concept of the Lee Valley Pathway was launched in 1996 to provide a combined use cycling and pedestrian route for the entire length of the Lee Valley Regional Park from Ware in Hertfordshire to East India Dock Basin at the River Thames. The Lee Valley Pathway is a route for local access, providing safe, off road recreational cycling. The route links many of the Lee Valley Regional Park’s venues and is an excellent way to explore the Lee Valley. The pathway also forms part of Route 1 and 61 of the National Cycle Network, a project championed by Sustrans (The Sustainable Transport Charity).
There are currently five completed sections of the Lee Valley Pathway:
1. Ware to Stanstead Abbotts (2 miles)
2. Stanstead Innings to Rye Road (1 mile)
3. Meadgate Road, Nazeing to Highbridge Street, Waltham Abbey (6½ miles)
4. Highbridge Street to North Circular Road (6 miles)
5. Tottenham Marshes to Olympic Park (6 miles)
Lea Valley Walk
The Lea Valley Walk is one of the jewels in the Regional Park's crown. 25 (40kms) of the 50 (80kms) mile route, which stretches from the source of the Lea at Luton to the Thames at Bow, are within the Regional Park. By following the swan symbol, which marks the route, you willdiscover the vistas of a bygone age and have the opportunity to breathe the fresh air of this rural idyll which the Regional Park has become. For more information on the Lea Valley Walk, including routes and audio guides visit the
Walk London website.
The sections of the walk that fall within the Regional Park boundaries are mainly managed by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and British Waterways, other sections are managed by the local authorities for that area.
The Lea Valley Walk book is available to buy through our
Information Service and provides full details and information about the entire walk.
Please note: Part of the Lea Valley Walk will be closed until September 2011 due to towpath closure on the navigation towpath at Harbet Road/Towpath Road. Please use the diversion. For additional information please call British Waterways on 020 7985 7200.
