Cracking Commons Stocked into Ashley
On 25th April, 53 Commons were stocked into Ashley from Lee Valley Park's Carp Rearing Facility. The fish, which averaged about 2.5lb, were originally caught by rod and line from Bowyers in summer 2003 when they were 2-4 inches. They were then held for two years until the polytunnel was setup at which time they were transferred into the ongrowing facility. This stocking will compliment the existing stock of all mirrors (original fish excluded if they are present) and seeing as they are from the Bowyers strain, have the potential to get very big! We look forward to seeing their progress. Some pictures of the stocking of the commons have been put on the photo gallery pages.
Catch Reports - Up to 13th June 2006
Ashley Warden Co-ordinator Colin Short got amongst the fast growing mirrors during a 2 night session at the end of May when he landed a 17lb 12oz mirror and his biggest from the lake so far, a 24lb 4oz mirror. Pictures are on the Gallery.
During the first week of June, Colin heavily baited a few areas and proceded to land another couple of mid double mirrors.
On a recent outing in the boat on Ashley, the Fisheries Team spotted a good number of 20lb+ fish cruising about in the sun, no sign of any of the original fish as yet though, we'll keep you posted.
Catch Reports - Up to 7th November 2006
Ashley Warden Co-ordinator Colin Short and his Cousin Ken Ewin fished a two night session on Ashley recently and both landed 20lb+ mirrors. Colin started things off with a chunky 22lb 6oz specimen on their first night and Ken chipped in with a longer 24lb 4oz mirror the next night. The Ashley mirrors are certainly coming on well with a good number of the catches being made up of 20lb+ fish now.
Catch Reports - Up to 13th October 2007
There have been no catch reports by the members, however the baliffs have been catching regularly including a brace of 26lb mirrors that formed part of a 4 fish catch over a two night session. The water level has now started to drop after being at the highest summer levels since the fishery opened back in 2001, however the weed shows no sign of dying back and locating clear spots on the bars and round the islands is vital if you want to catch.
