After a slow start this year finally the fish are starting to see the bank again. This week Dave fosset opened his account with a 19lb common then a 34lb 1oz common. Fisheries Officer Lee Robbins sort of started with a stockies of 8lb 8oz mirror and a 4lb common. Pest controller as rumour has it!!!! After a very explosive start, with some anglers having up to 6 fish in one sesion and one angler having 17 fish in 3 days, the fishing started to slow down as the weed took hold. Bowyers regular Dave Fosset has been having the odd one with his best called "Goldie" at 35lb 4oz and last week had a 34lb common. Tesco Lee has been sneaking a few out up to 32lb.
Fish Stock Boosted With Home Grown Beauties
On 25th April 2006, 37 mirrors were stocked into Bowyers from the Lee Valley Park Carp Rearing Facility. These fish were originally caught from Bowyers by rod and line in summer 2003 at between 2-4 inches. They were held for two years in tanks, before the facility was setup and then spent the last 10 months growing on in the polytunnel. The fish, which averaged about 3lb, were absolutely stunning and made up of a mixture of linears, heavily scaled and leathery mirrors (see photo gallery pages for a selection of the stocked fish). We are sure these fish are going to thrive now they are back in their home water and look forward to watching their progress.
