We've created some simple health and safety guidelines to ensure your day out at the Farms is safe and enjoyable:
-
It is the parent or carer’s choice whether their child is allowed to touch or feed the animals. Touching or feeding animals can cause infection particularly in young children. When feeding animals the food should be thrown onto the floor of the animal pen.
-
The parent or carer
MUST supervise the washing of childrens’ hands immediately after leaving a contact area, before eating or drinking, and after removing footwear.
-
Sanitiser gels will be provided and are useful as an
additional measure of protection. They are not a substitute for thorough handwashing.
-
Eat only food for human consumption, in designated areas, and never eat food which has fallen onto the ground, or taste animal foods.
-
Allow plenty of time to avoid rushing so hand washing is carried out thoroughly.
-
Clean or change footwear before leaving, remembering to wash your hands after any contact with animal faeces on your footwear.
-
Do not suck fingers or put hands, pens, pencils or crayons etc. in mouths.
-
Do not kiss animals.
-
Do not allow children to pick up farm tools (e.g. spades and forks).
-
Do not climb on walls or animal pens.
-
Listen carefully to instructions and information given by farm staff.
-
A
pproach animals quietly.
-
Do not chase, frighten or torment animals.
-
If a member of your group shows signs of illness (e.g. sickness or
diarrhoea
) after a visit, advise them or their parent/guardian to visit the doctor and explain that they have had recent contact with animals.
Sticking to all of these should ensure you have a great day!
