The nearest Postcode for this site is EN11 0AS
Dobbs Weir is a collection of green space areas adjacent to the River Lee Navigation for informal recreation.
The waters on site host a
day ticket fishery, part of which has priority given to people with disabilities accessed by a key / permit system. Also, visit the
Fisheries Web Page for more information.
There are also opportunities to access other sites from here: Nazeing Meads/Carthagena, Admirals Walk Lake and Glen Faba are all nearby.
An old fording point of the River Lee, there are many reports of horses and carts crossing the river here in the past being lost in times of flood.
Parts of the area used to have Plotland type chalets on them that people once lived in.
Many years ago there was once a parson/vicar who owned the pub that would preach sermons to the pubs patrons from the bar.
There is mooring available on the River Lee Navigation near the cafe subject to British Waterways Bye-Laws.
On the Weir pool site there still exists one of the old manual weirs used to control water levels in the Navigation especially at the time of heavy rains. It is reported to be the last one with the gates remaining. Behind the old structure there is the replacement 'Auto Weirs' that, now with the Lee Flood Relief Channel, control water flow.
The site generally has good access. There are hard surfaced paths on all areas except the 'Island Site'. This area is located near the car park opposite the Fish and Eels Public House on the opposite bank of the River Lee Navigation.
There is a toilet block with a cubical for people with disabilities, which can be found in the car park opposite the Fish and Eels Public House. There is a height barrier at the entrance to the car park, height restriction 2 metres.
Lee Valley Caravan Site is now permanently closed.
