Welcome to the Lee Valley park website

This site is a small green space used for informal recreation and is located on the banks of the River Lee Navigation adjacent to the Jolly Fisherman Public House.

 

The wharves located on the River Lee Navigation at this point were the cradle of the local malting industry supplying high quality product (Malted/Roasted Barley) to the brewing industry.

 

Up until 1962 Stanstead Abbotts Riverside Green was the site of a malt roasting works. The area has been landscaped by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority to provide a small green area for informal recreation.

 

A piece of public artwork designed by Alec Peever is a prominent feature of the site. The main part of the artwork is the four standing stones surrounded by an inscribed hard landscaped area. Other parts of the artwork are to be found across the site.

 

Mooring available on the River Lee Navigation subject to British Waterways byelaws.

 

 

 

The nearest railway station is St Margaret’s on the Hertford East branch line (London Liverpool Street to Cambridge Mainline). Leave the station and head towards the Jolly Fisherman Public House located on the right hand side of the High Street, just before the bridge. The entrance to Riverside Green is located just after the entrance to the pub car park.

 

N.B This site does not have its own car park.

 

The nearset Public Car Parks are located at:

 

St Margarets Railway Station and opposite the Co-operative Supermarket in Stanstead Abbotts High Street.

N.B. Parking cahrges are payable at both locations.

 

The Jolly Fisherman Pub car park is for the use patrons only.
