Three Mills Island

Three Mills Island, Three Mills Lane, London E3 3DU

Three Mills was an important area for both agriculture and industry since the Saxon times (first noted in the Doomsday Book which identified eight mills in the area). The House Mill closed due to heavy bombing in the area in 1941-42 and the Clock Mill continued until 1952. The island now includes the G rade I listed House Mill, believed to be the largest tidal mill in the world, the reconstructed Millers’ House and the Grade II listed Clock Mill. The latter is part of 3 Mills Film Studio. Guided tours of the House Mill are available on Sunday and at other times by appointment.

There are also the Riverside Green and Three Mills Green, two open spaces that are perfect for relaxing, walking and cycling. You can walk and cycle along the river from here either down to Limehouse cut or go north towards Leyton, Tottenham and Hertfordshire. The House Mill has a café and toilets.
