Gunpowder Park safety works

Starting from Monday 16th February there will be site investigation work taking place at Gunpowder Park, to check the risk posed by old man holes on the site. This will be taking place within the fenced off areas but as a consequence there will be some vehicle movement on site, which will be kept to a minimum.

We apologise for an inconvenience caused.

June 4th 2004 saw the official opening of Gunpowder Park, by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh. Through a multi-million pound investment by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority (LVRPA), the land has been reclaimed and regenerated from its former use as a Royal Ordnance munitions testing facility.

After 100 years as a closed site, it has been transformed into a dynamic new country park for the benefit of people, wildlife and the arts, with a brand new environmentally friendly park centre. The Park is an ideal place for walkers and cyclists, with a comprehensive network of surfaced paths accessible in all weathers. There is also a permissive bridleway for summer use circling the Energy Fields. See the Gunpowder Park Leaflet.

Gunpowder Park hosts an exciting initiative devoted to arts, science and nature projects, which is based in the park centre. Landscape & Arts Network Services (LANS) is in partnership with LVRPA to develop and manage this year round programme. Visitors to the Park will enjoy an innovative range of entertaining and educational projects.

The building is a working environment hosting a range of activities including exhibitions, creative workshops and special events as advertised or by appointment. Visitors are welcome to meet the Gunpowder Park team, view the building, current exhibitions and work in progress. As the building is also used for private meetings, opening times vary. Visit the Gunpowder Park website for current and past activities.
