Rivers, lakes and open water spaces can become tempting places to have fun and enjoy the environment. However, we strongly advise you not to play, jump or swim in any of the open water spaces and places around the Park as there may be hazards you are unaware of, such as water quality issues, high currents and fluctuations in water temperature.
Lee Valley Regional Park has a variety of different water sports and activities to offer, from marinas and boat centres to rowing and canoeing. We want to ensure visitors to the Park stay safe in and around water this summer.
Top Tips for keeping safe around water in Lee Valley Regional Park:
- Do read and take notice of any safety notices. The information is there for your own personal safety.
- Think about the hazards near the waters edge, which can be slippery when wet and if you fall in, it may be difficult to get out again.
- Think twice about consuming alcohol in or around open water places as it may seriously impair your ability and judgement.
- Don’t jump or dive into any open water places; water depths can vary and there may be unseen hazards such as shallow water, broken glass or other sharp objects.
- Don’t take unnecessary risks in or around water.
- Don’t go in the water near weirs, locks, pipes and sluices. These may be linked to strong currents which pose a danger to even the strongest of swimmers.
- Supervise young children and help keep them safe by warning them against going into the water alone or unsupervised, playing near the water’s edge and know their whereabouts at all times, especially when near open water.
