Keeping you safe - gardens

Keeping you safe

Throughout the Coronavirus outbreak, keeping our visitors, staff and volunteers safe has been our top priority. We’ve reviewed the Government’s latest advice and, with the help of a new booking system alongside changes to the way we manage the gardens, we can now reopen and start welcoming you back.

To help ensure everyone’s safety we need you to follow these instructions:

NHS Test and Trace

  • When visiting our venues please check in with the NHS Test and Trace app. Find out more here. No smartphone? No problem. Our staff are on hand to help

Booking and coming to the site

  • We’re currently only opening for two hour visits on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays for the general public
  • Visitors can bring family members but must include them when booking
  • Visits are free and must be booked in advance – BOOK NOW
  • Car parking can also be booking in advance through the link. Charge remains the same (£2.50)
  • Booking times are limited to a maximum of 20 people
  • Face coverings are mandatory for all customers when entering the venue’s receptions, shops and catering outlet. They can be removed if instructed by a member of staff so that activities can be undertaken and for consuming food
  • Track and Trace – please help us to support NHS Track and Trace by registering your contact details when entering the venue using QR code. If you need any help to do this please ask a member of staff
  • If you or anyone in your household is experiencing any signs of illness do not visit the gardens
  • You must maintain 2m between yourself and others at all times
  • While hand sanitiser will be available on site bringing your own is recommended

  • On arrival you’ll be asked to park to the rear of Myddelton House
  • Do not arrive more than 15 minutes before the start of your visiting time
  • The entrance to the gardens will be from the rear of the house. Signage is in place to show you where to enter the gardens

  • The Bowles Tea Room currently closed for refreshments, you’re welcome to bring your own light refreshments however picnics aren’t allowed

During your visit

  • A one-way system is in place and must be followed. You can go around the one way system as many times as you wish as long as it’s in the allocated time for your visit. Signage is place to help you stick to the one way system
  • All buildings are currently closed including the glasshouses, conservatory and museum. Avoid touching the glass or door handles of these
  • Your visit should not exceed two hours and you must leave by the end of your allotted time
  • Some benches are available for use. These are intended for short periods only of up to 15 minutes to take a break from walking
  • If an area of the garden is busy you must wait for people to move on before entering that area

Leaving the site

  • Ten minutes before the end of your allotted time a bell will ring. You must make your way back to your vehicle, or to the exit if on foot when you hear this bell
  • Take care in the car park and, if there are people near your car, wait for them to go before you get into yours. No social gathering should take place in the car park
