2012 Games

Lee Valley Regional Park Authority is playing an active part in what will be the most exciting event in the world - the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

1.2 million people and 15,000 athletes are expected to visit London as part of the London 2012 Games  representing a once in a lifetime opportunity for the country.

We own 20 per cent of the Olympic Park and have been working with a huge variety of stakeholders and partners to ensure the success of the Games’ legacy. You can read about our current and future London 2012 legacy work in Delivering a Sporting Legacy from the London 2012 Games.

We will own, manage and fund four venues after the London 2012 Games – Lee Valley White Water Centre in Hertfordshire, the first 2012 venue to open to the public. Following the success of its inaugural season, a special winter rafting season is being launched in January for adrenalin sports enthusiasts and simply the brave. Post Games, we will also run Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centres and the VeloPark - all on the Olympic Park. Lee Valley Regional Park shares this responsibility with the Olympic Park Legacy Company and the London Borough of Hackney.

These new centres will join the other regional sports venues the Authority runs to add to the chain of sporting excellence along the 26 mile long, 10,000 acre Lee Valley Regional Park.

Since the Park was established in 1966 our aim has been to provide quality open spaces and leisure facilities for the people of London, Essex and Hertfordshire – and further afield – to enjoy, which is why we're playing a key role in the planning of London 2012 Games venues and are actively involved in legacy master-planning work.

We've decades of experience of running outstanding parklands and first rate sporting venues – our world class  Lee Valley Athletics Centre  is the training ground for many of the UK’s top athletes and 2012 hopefuls. We know how to blend the elements needed to help top class athletes achieve greatness, with the types of community usage which makes venues come alive.

These new London 2012 legacy centres will add to the chain of sporting venues we already operate along the 26 mile long, 10,000 acre Lee Valley Regional Park.
