Four2Go Volunteers needed - 4th October 2008
Four2Go is being organised by Parents for Children
http://www.parentsforchildren.org.uk/; they are a non-profit making adoption and fostering Agency based in East London, but working country-wide, who specialise in finding homes for children with profound physical and learning disabilities.
Four2Go is the second event in an annual race series, which will take place on October 4th this year. It comprises a series of races: a trail marathon, a corporate relay marathon, a 10k fun run, 5k family relay and 1k fun run. It takes place in the Lee Valley Park, with the marathons starting at the north end in Hertfordshire and ending on Hackney Marsh where we also hope to have a range of family festival activities.
The annual series of events has been inspired by the countdown to London 2012 and began last year with the pilot event – Five2Go – which was an outstanding success with many participants saying that they’d take part in subsequent events. The hope if for the series to go from strength to strength and embody the London 2012 ethos of promoting healthier lifestyles and getting children and local communities involved in sport and culture. As part of this they are looking to recruit volunteers from the local boroughs for the following roles:
·
Race Marshals
·
Stewards
·
First Aid
·
Registration Officers
·
Fundraisers
·
Water Station Attendants
Four2Go offers excellent “live event” experience for volunteers and would prove valuable to any of those who wish to volunteer for London 2012. All expenses will be covered and an induction day will take place prior to the event. If you would like to volunteer you can contact Alex Gordon or Feeroza Patel on 02075202880 or e-mail adminwork@parentsforchildren.org.uk

The Park has recruited a new volunteers officer, Rebecca Dallison. If you see her around the Park, she'll say hello over the next few months. She'll also be helping to support the Volunteer Programme as it develops over the coming years.
London needs you!

You can make a big difference to our city – here’s how, where, and when
Want to be part of an event like the Notting Hill Carnival or Crusaid Walk for Life? Londoners can quickly search online for large and small events they want to give their time at using the new London Events Volunteering Calendar.
The calendar is being launched during Volunteers Week (1-7 June) in recognition that volunteers bring vast energy, knowledge and experience to the running of London events. It is part of a set of new online resources for volunteers, event organisers, and organisations created by Greater London Volunteering to help prepare for 2012.
There are many roles for volunteers at events, including: hosting VIPs, registering participants and answering queries, setting up equipment, marshalling, handing out medals and goody bags, supporting people with disabilities, fundraising, First Aid, marketing, interpreting, or leading a team of volunteers.

New volunteering website bolsters sport in London
Most clubs would not exist without volunteers. They bring vast energy, knowledge and experience to the running of sports clubs. In recognition that volunteers are sport’s heroes Greater London Volunteering (GLV) is launching a new website and publicity materials to help London sports clubs get more volunteers on-side. The Sporting Heroes campaign is being launched as part of Volunteers Week (1-7 June).
The new website, funded by London Councils, offers free resources to help clubs recruit, manage and support volunteers. Features include the new London Events Volunteering Calendar and information support for clubs and volunteers. Downloadable resources include promotional posters, checklists, templates, and records of achievements.
Successful clubs need a variety of volunteer roles to help achieve their goals. These include familiar roles like coaching and equipment management; and less obvious roles such as website development, publicity, catering, fundraising, and membership services to name a few.

SENIOR RESPONSIBLE OFFICER PROCEEDURE
Posted 16th October 2007
There is a new proceedure for calling the SRO. This is in the revised handbook and briefly outlined below:
ALERTING THE SRO
1.
The 999 system should be used in the first instance for all incidents requiring intervention by the Police or Emergency Services.
2.
The SRO should be alerted immediately of any incident that involves a serious breach of the Byelaws, injury to an employee, volunteer or a member of the public, damage to public or private property, or requires the attendance of the Police park security officers or Emergency Services.
-
The SRO should also be alerted to any ongoing incidents that might develop to involve the circumstances described above or where these circumstances have been narrowly avoided.
-
As soon as possible after an alert, the SRO or another Warranted Officer instructed by the SRO for this purpose will assess the nature of the alert.
