Induction courses
Once registered as a volunteer you need to attend an induction session. This may be done locally or you may be able to attend a generic induction course which we run periodically. This will give you all the information that you need and a copy of the Volunteer Handbook. A date for your induction session will be agreed at your interview.

Volunteers Handbook and Information Pack
All volunteers who register with the Lee Valley Park will get a copy of the Volunteers Handbook. This is normally given out at your induction session. It is also provided here in pdf format at the bottom of this page which you can download.

This is a source of information for all volunteers and has been developed for two reasons. Firstly it is a guide and gives back up information from the induction that all volunteers go through. Secondly it provides lots of useful information for volunteers to look after their own and other Park users Health and Safety.

Much of this is common sense but we feel it is handy to have it all in one small booklet and will give volunteers a clear place to reference any queries they may have.

IMPORTANT UPDATE 2007

We have revised the handbook and from October 2007 there are a couple of key changes. Rangers contact details and the sites that they are responsible for have been updated and there is a new proceedure for calling the Senior Responsible Officer in the case of an emergency.

Please have a look at these and make sure you have the latest information. If you require a hard copy of the hand book please call or write to the Volunteers Manager who will supply you with the latest version.

If you have any feedback on this publication please feel free to let us know.

Specific training
If you need any specific training for your particular role this will be agreed with your supervisor and will be done at the locality of your volunteering role.

Other training
We also run other training sessions through out the year particularly for the biological survey volunteers and if you are registered as a survey volunteer you will get invites to these training sessions.

There are also odd occasions when other types of training become available and it is important that we are aware of any training requirements that you may have so please feel free to let us know what they are. There is the facility for you to feed back on any training courses or subjects you would like to attend in the induction as well so please make use of this.

There are many other training options open now to volunteers. Some are free and some incur a cost (which in some cases may be sponsored). If you are looking to broaden your experience or are interested in volunteer management some of this training may be of interest to you.

If you have a training need or desire you can discuss this with your supervisor or the volunteer manager to see if training can be sourced in the subject you require and which will benefit the Authority as well as the individual.
