Ultimate Snowdrop Sale
Enfield’s enchanting Myddelton House Gardens is to welcome the return of the Ultimate Snowdrop Sale event in its 9th annual year, inviting green-fingered visitors and collectors the chance to purchase common and rare varieties of the much sought after Galanthus bulbs.
Available in many varieties, snowdrops can vary in height, flower size, shape, colouring and even petal markings which help to distinguish species, with the rarest variants often fetching thousands of pounds at auction. E A Bowles, the British horticulturist and creator of the extensive gardens at Myddelton House, was a collector of snowdrops and is thought to have coined the word ‘galanthophile’ to describe a snowdrops enthusiast. Mr Bowles has a snowdrop named after him – the Galanthus plicatus ‘E. A. Bowles’.
