Early Marsh Orchid

Early Marsh Orchid
Early Marsh Orchid
These plants are usually found in wet or damp meadows, fens and marshes and have decreased in numbers as the habitats have declined. Within London, they are only found in the Regional Park on areas where pulverised fuel ash, a by-product of coal fired power stations has been dumped.

Early Marsh Orchids can be seen in flower in May and June, amongst other orchid species including Common Spotted, Southern Marsh, Pyramidal and Bee Orchids at Bowyers Water and Cheshunt Orchid Area, both on the Orchid Discovery Trail starting in Pindar Car Park. Bee Orchids can be seen in large numbers on Rammey Marsh and in smaller numbers on Tottenham Marshes.
