Wet Woodland
The natural wet woodlands that existed in river valleys have now all but disappeared. However, by allowing natural succession to occur, wet woodlands will develop on the edges of gravel pits and on poorly draining land. Often these woodlands contain interesting plants, fungi and insects.

Good examples of wet woodland can be accessed via boardwalks at Gunpowder Park and the Waterworks Nature Reserve.
