'James and the Giant Peach' comes to life for residents

More than 300 parents and children made the most of a bright but windy day and headed to Gunpowder Park, near Waltham Abbey,  armed with picnic blankets to enjoy the Illyria Theatre Company’s family outdoor production of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic, ‘James and the Giant Peach.’

The audience were entranced as they followed the adventures of James as he befriended some very peculiar insects and escaped the clutches of his terrible aunts inside a giant peach in the one off production on Tuesday 24 August.

Naomi Chant, Events Manager at Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, said: “It was a fantastic production that had the audience engaged from beginning to end. The inflatable peach in the middle of the show went down a real treat with the children.

“Despite the classic British windy ‘summer’ getting the better of costumes and props; it was a really enjoyable show.”

This was the third and final outdoor theatre production of the season hosted by the Lee Valley Regional Park. The other productions were Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing by Chapterhouse Theatre Company and the local Wadham Players production of Cinderella – both held at the WaterWorks Nature Reserve in Leyton.

Lee Valley Regional Park has recently produced it’s ‘What’s On’ guide for September 2010 to March 2011 so please visit the events page of our website to find out what’s on offer near you.

Gunpowder Park is a dynamic park that was opened in 2004 and is part of the 26 mile, 10,000 acre Lee Valley Regional Park. It is an ideal place for walkers and cyclists.
