A brand new website seeking the opinions of visitors, users and stakeholders has been launched by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority. The Authority has reached the final stage of their long-term park consultation (The Park Development Framework) and is encouraging people to log on and have their say on the future development of the only parkland to stretch 26 miles from Hertfordshire, through to Essex and on to the Thames in London.

After long-term consultation with partners and collaborators the Authority now seeks the wider views of the public. Chief Executive Shaun Dawson is calling on people to give their comments to help ensure this final stage of the consultation truly captures the views of the wider community across London, Herts and Essex.

Shaun said: “Lee Valley is a fantastic park with increasingly wide ranging projects and programmes, it is important we capture as many opinions in this final stage of the consultation as possible. If we are able to consult with a broad range of visitors we will be able to provide so much more when planning for the Park’s future. The consultation has offered some impressive ideas so far but we are keen to ensure we engage with many more people at this final stage to capture thoughts on key elements of the Park’s future infrastructure and design.”

Lee Valley will own, manage and fund threevenues after the London 2012 Games – the White Water Canoe Centre in Broxbourne, where you can try your hand at canoeing or rafting before the Games in Spring 2011, the VeloPark andEton Manor (the Hockey and Tennis Centre) – these will add greatly to Lee Valley’s portfolio of sporting venues but the Authority is urging people to comment on more wide ranging areas, not only its sporting venues.

Rob Cairns, Head of Environmental Design and programme lead for the consultation said: “We are asking for people’s views on the final stage of this consultation to provide more in depth opinions on our visitor facilities, our biodiversity and environmental programmes and for ideas on how we can further develop our conservation and heritage areas. We are now seeking the views of local residents and visitors to find out what they want to see in their park of the future. We are at an exciting stage of development and now we need your help to fine tune the proposals. By telling us what you think of the draft plans and highlighting the ideas you have, you will help us finalise the plans and make sure that we get them right for everyone’s benefit.”

All the information about the draft plans are available online, for your chance to comment on the future development of this amazing parkland, log on at: http://www.leevalleypark.org.uk/pdfconsultation/vision
