Curtain rises on Lee Valley Regional Park’s summer of outdoor entertainment

Lee Valley Regional Park, London’s biggest open space, today raised the curtain on an exciting and varied programme of theatrical and musical performances.

Each production takes place at a spectacular outdoor venue within the Park’s 10,000 acres of open space, stretching along the River Lee from Ware in Hertfordshire to East India Dock Basin on the Thames.

‘The Story of Cinderella’ and ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ will take place at the WaterWorks Nature Reserve and Golf Centre, an urban treasure in Leyton, located just a few miles from central London. The Nature Reserve houses one of the largest bird hides in London and attracts a variety of birds, mammals, reptiles and insects. Over 350 species of plant have been found on the site, so it’s well worth exploring before the show starts.

Children will particularly enjoy the classic Roald Dahl family favourite ‘James and the Giant Peach’ showing at Gunpowder Park, a 222 acre country park in Essex, just south of Waltham Abbey and the M25 (between Junctions 25 and 26).  Why not take a walk or cycle and explore the different habitats, looking out for the range of birds, dragonflies and butterflies that call the Park home.

Music aficionados will appreciate Jazz in the Garden in the beautiful Myddelton House Gardens in Enfield, with BBC Jazz Singer of the Year Anthony Strong and his band or a classical performance by the Bloomsbury String Quartet.
