One of the most senior Members of the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Cllr John Jackson, passed away on Friday.
Cllr Jackson had been a Member of the Park Authority for 30 years and had held a wide variety of key positions, including Chairman for 10 years. He had also served on Enfield Council for 40 years.
As Chairman of the Lee Valley Athletics Centre steering group, he presided over the successful delivery of a world class sports venue which opened in Edmonton last year.
LVRPA Chairman Cllr Elizabeth Webster said: “John was an immense source of support to me and, indeed, the entire Authority. His unparalleled experience, knowledge, insight and enormous dedication will be sorely missed.
“It is entirely fitting that the very last duty he performed for the Authority was attending the East of England Excellence Awards a fortnight ago and had the pleasure of seeing us named runner up.”
LVRPA Chief Executive Shaun Dawson said: “John’s calm and pragmatic leadership, along with his passion and commitment to the Authority have been instrumental in creating the Lee Valley Regional Park we see and enjoy today.
“John was a man who was very highly regarded and respected by all those who had the pleasure to know him and he will be missed greatly.”
