Midshires Search and Rescue were at the River Lee Country Park recently honing their map reading skills by navigating around the stunning 1,000 acre Country Park.

The training exercise saw nine teams competing to complete as much of the Park’s orienteering course as possible over a two hour period.

Midshires Search and Rescue is a lowland search and rescue organisation that provides services to the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire police forces and the Milton Keynes division of Thames Valley police. The group of 30 volunteers assist in the search for members of the public who have gone missing, particularly if they are deemed to be vulnerable, and to assist county teams in dealing with other types of civil emergencies.

Jon Carney, Area Manager at Lee Valley Regional Park said “We were delighted to host Midshire’s training session in the River Lee Country Park and are always pleased to offer our parklands and open spaces as training grounds for similar organisations and emergency services”.

John Howard, Training Officer from Midshires Search and Rescue said “We would like to thank Lee Valley Regional Park for allowing us to use the Country Park and for their help in making the day run smoothly”.

The River Lee Country Park is part of the 10,000 acre Lee Valley Regional Park which stretches 26 miles along the banks of the River Lee from Hertfordshire, through Essex and down to East India Dock Basin on the Thames. The Country Park is made up of a network of pathways, riverside trails and angling sites and teems with wildlife, including internationally important numbers of wildfowl.
