Schools compete in the Inter-schools Athletics Competition
Yesterday 11 schools from the Boroughs of Enfield, Haringey, Broxbourne, East Herts and Waltham Forest took part in the final of the Lee Valley inter-school athletics competition.
Taking place at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre the top scoring teams from the semi finals, which took place on 25 February, competed against each other and the remaining teams competed in a ‘plate’ competition.
The winning boy’s team was St Thomas More (Haringey) with Enfield Grammar (Enfield) winning the plate competition. The winning girl’s team was Lammas School (Waltham Forest) with St Thomas More (Haringey) winning the plate competition.
The winning girls and boys team in both competitions each received a trophy, presented by GB sprint Athlete Simeon Williamson. Simeon is the European under-23 100m champion and World Student Games gold medallist. This weekend Simeon will be teaming up with Dwain Chambers in the 60m for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the World Indoor Championships in Valencia. This will be Simeon’s first senior international.
Simeon regularly trains at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre under the eye of UK coach of the year, Lloyd Cowan.
