Whether you want to learn the basics or hone your existing skills to pass an exam, we can provide you with expert training.
British Horse Society Courses
Our courses include British Horse Society Stages 1, 2, and Ride Safe.
Taking British Horse Society (BHS) assessments runs over 12 weeks and cover the full BHS syllabus. It's a great way of improving your equine skills and knowledge, and gaining recognised qualifications.
At the end of the course we host an assessment day where BHS assessors will evaluate your skills and award the certificates. The assessment is optional - you can take the course without taking the test.
Who can take the course?
Anyone who currently rides with us at our Adult Novice level (for any non-members an assessment will be required prior to booking the course) – their feed, tack and equipment, anatomy and behavior.
For those considering a career with horses, the Stage 1 certificate is an internationally recognised qualification and the first level of a series of exams leading to The British Horse Society Coaching certificates.
Participants must be aged 14 years and over.
What will I learn?
Basic knowledge and practice of looking after horses.
Practical skills taught will be in line with the current British Horse Society syllabus.
Improve your standard of riding an experienced horse in an enclosed space.
When is the course?
Tuesday 10 September
19:30 - 21:30
How do I enrol?
The last day for enrolment is 9 September 2019 if already a member at novice level.
If you are not a current member with us, you'll need to book a private assessment lesson prior to enrolling.
Pop in to reception to speak with one of our staff for more information or give us a call on 020 8556 2629.
Assessment may be required prior to booking onto course.
Taking the assessment
All assessments are run by The British Horse Society. Prices and details of how to apply are on their website bhs.org.uk. Before applying for the assessment, you’ll need to become a Gold or Junior Gold member of the BHS.
School & youth groups
Groups of young people are welcome at Lee Valley Riding Centre, where activities range from basic riding taster sessions, grooming and pony care activities, to learn to ride courses lasting for a school term.
All horses and ponies are carefully selected for suitable temperament and safe handling. Our experienced instructors make sure all participants have a safe and fun learning experience.
