Lee Valley Ice Centre welcome its 1, 000,000 visit!
Lee Valley Ice Centre has surpassed its one millionth visit! The milestone was recorded on Sunday (30 March 2025), less than two years since the centre opened in June 2023. In that short time the UK’s most sustainable ice centre in Leyton, east London has become a community hub and a venue that attracts people from across London and beyond.
The one millionth visit was marked with a fanfare of celebrations this week including free skate sessions for local primary and secondary school children and competitions to win annual skate passes.
It’s just one impressive statistic recorded at our award winning venue though. Here’s some more:
370,000+ individuals have skated at Lee Valley Ice Centre
23,000+ Learn to Skate sessions through British Ice Skating’s programme
15,700+ young people from 464 youth groups and schools have skated for free through our community funding
3,500 skate sessions for young people at high risk of child poverty as part of the Mayor of London’s Kitchen Social Initiative and Holiday Activity Fund
820 club skating bookings have been hosted on our twin pad Olympic sized rinks
350+ experiences have been delivered to directly address crime and anti social behaviour
48 ice hockey matches have been hosted at Lee Valley Ice Centre – home to the Lee Valley Lions and new women’s team, Lee Valley Vampires
Visitors from every London borough and beyond
A 10 year partnership with London Borough of Waltham Forest is delivering Sustainability in Action sessions for local school children and programmes for young people addressing crime and anti social behaviour.
Lee Valley Regional Park Chief Executive Shaun Dawson said: “What an incredible achievement for Lee Valley Ice Centre. Many of those one million visits have created huge impact for a diverse range of people from the local community and across the region. Whether it’s providing free skate sessions for members of a community group or school to learn new skills or providing a world class venue for a new women’s ice hockey team, this centre is more than just two Olympic size ice rinks. It’s a space for people to be active, socialise with friends, try something new and for some, an opportunity to compete on a world stage. Whether you’re Torvill and Dean or a first time skater, this venue has something for everyone.”
